New Leader for Vancouver

NYIT welcomes Irene Young as the new dean and executive director of NYIT-Vancouver. A longtime administrator in educational institutions in the Vancouver area, Young comes to NYIT from Vancouver Community College (VCC), where she served as vice president for strategic partnerships and vice president for administration/chief financial officer.

Young will report to Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Rahmat Shoureshi, Ph.D., and be responsible for strategic planning and administrative oversight for all Vancouver operations. Two of her primary goals will be to build relationships in the community and develop NYIT’s Vancouver graduate offerings.

Shoureshi, said of Young, “Irene’s extensive network of contacts throughout the education sector, business community, and in government will benefit NYIT’s growing reputation as a leader in delivering career-oriented degrees and professional programs.”

“I was drawn to NYIT because its programs prepare students for today’s technology-oriented workplace,” Young said. “I also personally love the connection to New York, which is one of the most dynamic, innovative, and vibrant cities on earth.”

Young is earning a doctorate in education from Simon Fraser University. She also has an M.B.A. from the University of British Columbia and a bachelor of commerce from the University of Manitoba. She has been a chartered professional accountant (CMA) for 30 years.
