A June 2018 study released by the American Osteopathic Association found that half of Americans suffer chronic pain lasting three months or longer. While the U.S. opioid epidemic continues to sweep the nation, Sheldon Yao, D.O., chair and associate professor of osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) in NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM), maintains that osteopathic manipulative treatments learned by NYITCOM students will be the future of pain management.
