Careers in Transportation Technology

November 2, 2023
1:00 PM – 2:00 PM

Online

This event is part of the Industry Leaders Lecture Series, sponsored by the College of Engineering and Computing Sciences.

Matthew W. Daus, Esq., the former NYC Taxi & Limousine Commissioner/Chair, currently serving as Transportation Technology Chair at the City University of New York at City College, will deliver a lecture on the mobility industry, focusing on career opportunities for New York Tech students and graduates in technology, business, and policy in this rapidly growing field.

The presentation will include an overview of the history of transportation and how it has, and will continue to, evolve, starting with the introduction of smartphone apps for transportation ride-sourcing (i.e. Uber & Lyft). This seminal disruptive event has led to the “Uber-fication of everything,” from transportation software platforms and integration, intelligent ground transportation dispatching and routing, and apps for everything from e-scooters to bike shares to car sharing and rentals. Emerging technologies including electric vehicles and charging infrastructure, Mobility-as-a-Service (marrying public and private transport on one app/platform with uniform payments), autonomous and connected vehicle technology (driverless cars and robotaxis), and urban air mobility (yes, flying taxis), will also be discussed.

The transport tech revolution is in full-swing, so be a part of history and build a solid career – whether it be coding, mechanical engineering, policy, marketing, or other positions to support innovation. Drawing from personal experiences over the last 25 years, Mr. Daus will engage with students and graduates to provide interactive and pragmatic advice on how to explore and build exciting and lucrative careers in the expanding mobility tech industry.
