7:00 PM – 8:30 PM

Anna Rubin Hall, room 301
Long Island, NY

New York Tech is pleased to welcome John Culbertson, who will give a presentation on Distributed Antenna Systems: A Solution for LEED Buildings. Members of the Energy and Environmental Advisory Council of the College of Engineering and Computing Sciences of New York Tech are especially encouraged to attend this presentation

Culbertson is well known in the technology industry because for his vision of bringing smart grid, smart buildings, and smart cities to fruition through fiber optics and cellular technology. He is an entrepreneur with extensive experience in sales and marketing in for companies that he worked for and founded. Culbertson is a current founding board member of Long Island Software and Technology Network (LISTnet), one of the founding executives for Cablevision Lightpath, and the CTO/co-founder of Open Access (a fiber optic alternate carrier). He has appeared in leading publications such as Newsday, Long Island Business News, and Fortune Magazine. Culbertson is also a current member of USGBC-Long Island, Urban Green Council-NYC, a ConEd Market Partner, Energize NY Finance Partner (PACE Financing), and a past member of the New York Battery Storage Technology Consortium (NYBEST).

LEED building designs can have an unintended consequence of blocking the cellular signal from entering the building – which interrupts workflow, impacts emergency preparedness, and inhibits smart technologies from working inside buildings. UV treated e-glass, energy-efficient building products, and tight envelopes all contribute to interfering with the propagation of the cellular signal from outside to inside the facilities. Distributed antenna systems are the best solution to provide consistent coverage/capacity, increase emergency preparedness, and enable IoT devices and mobile devices to work seamlessly inside and outside of buildings.
