Facebook Live: Fight Antibiotic-Resistant Superbugs—With Viruses
November 2, 2018
3:15 PM – 3:45 PM
Join us for a Facebook Live discussion with assistant professor of Life Sciences Bryan Gibb, Ph.D., as he urges researchers to look beyond antibiotics and dedicate resources to new treatments—like giving people viruses.
In his latest op-ed published by Salon, Gibb argues that the overuse of antibiotic drugs have caused "superbugs," antibiotic-resistant bacteria, to grow more deadly, and traditional antibiotics alone can't stop them. During this Facebook Live session, Gibb and his undergraduate students Briana Weiss and Lovejit Kaur, along with alumna Linesha Davis (B.S. '18), will demonstrate how bacteriophages, viruses that destroy bacteria, found in kitchen sponges may hold clues to fighting antibiotic resistance.
