While many gym goers believe that eating less and exercising more is the best formula for losing and maintaining body weight, it may in fact slow metabolism and eventually lead to weight gain.

Under-eating and exercising is a common issue among recreational runners, but many don't realize that doing so can create too wide a gap between calorie intake and expenditure. Joanne Donoghue, Assistant Professor, Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, at NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM), explores this metabolic problem among female runners, a group which often faces societal pressure to maintain a certain physique in her recent study.
