Sharing Insight for Baby Safety Month
In Today’s Parent, Victoria Cuomo, FNP, instructor in the nursing program, educated readers about Baby Safety Month, promoted each September by the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association. Among other points, Cuomo highlights the importance of carefully installing car seats and reminds parents of best practices and regulations when purchasing baby carriers and strollers. Regarding carriers, she states:
“Most carriers have weight limits, and using one outside these limits can be unsafe. It’s important to position the baby so that their face is always visible and their chin is not resting on their chest, which helps keep their airflow clear. Additionally, the baby’s legs should be in an ‘M’ shape, with their knees positioned higher than their bottom to support healthy hip development.”
