Expert: Walking Can Benefit Weight Loss
Alexander Rothstein, M.S., instructor and coordinator for the exercise science program, was quoted in a Woman’s World story about walking for weight loss. In addition to explaining the science behind its mood-boosting benefits, he emphasized that walking can aid in calorie expenditure.
“Walking can be beneficial for weight loss, as it increases energy expenditure in a low-intensity manner,” explains Rothstein, an American College of Sports Medicine-certified exercise physiologist. “Higher energy expenditure means individuals will burn more calories, which increases fat loss…It is important to note that this is a minor change in calories compared with higher-intensity exercises, like running, or dietary changes, but it absolutely counts.”
