Expert: Youth Athletics Impact the Body Later in Life

November 13, 2024

Alexander Rothstein, Ed.D., faculty member in the Exercise Science, B.S. program, shared his insight with Women’s Health for an article about how playing childhood sports can impact the adult body. Rothstein explains that one area that can be affected is bone density, as the most important time to build foundational bone density is before 20 years old.

“The cool thing is that those who play sports through their formative childhood years usually have a larger degree of bone density throughout their lifetime,” says Rothstein, adding that recent research confirms that bone density accumulated in childhood has a clear correlation to bone health later in life.
