Fitness Expert Shares Tips to Avoid Dangerous Condition
Alexander Rothstein, M.S., coordinator and instructor for the exercise science program, has been quoted in a GQ article about rhabdomyolysis, a serious medical condition that occurs when muscles take too much damage, too fast.
Early warning signs include pain going far beyond normal workout soreness and a steep drop in performance, with dark urine being a later-stage sign, Rothstein explains. However, he notes that rhabdo can be prevented with proper recovery and progressive loading. “The issue comes into play when somebody doesn’t prescribe to the progression. They’re a little too quick to jump in,” Rothstein says.
