Psychiatrist Discusses College Transition Anxiety

August 19, 2024

Psychiatrist Liat Jarkon, D.O., director of the Center for Behavioral Health, was interviewed for a News 12 segment about managing the transition to college life for teens and parents. Jarkon notes that, while three quarters of new college students report anxiety, joining campus activities can help students build connections with their peers and reduce loneliness. She also encourages students to get familiar with the counseling and support resources available at their campus and not to be afraid to seek help if needed. Similarly, if parents are psychologically impacted by their child leaving home, Jarkon advises that they should seek counseling to work through their feelings, which can also set a healthy example for their children.
