June 16, 2016

Old Westbury, NY – Monte N. Redman (B.S. '81), president and chief executive officer of Astoria Bank, is the newest member of New York Institute of Technology's board of trustees, and the most recent alumnus of the university to contribute his expertise to help strategically guide the university as it enters its sixtieth year.

Redman's career in the financial services industry spans nearly 40 years. He joined Astoria in 1977 and has served in various accounting, investment, treasury, and senior management positions. "Monte's professional experience in the broad areas of financial services, managing and growing lines of business, and leveraging technology will be valuable complements to our board expertise," said Edward Guiliano, Ph.D., president of NYIT. "We take great pride in the professional success and commitment to community service of our alumni, and know that Monte will offer strategic guidance for the university as well as serve as an effective role model for our students."

"At Astoria Bank, we have a deeply engrained culture of wanting to make a difference for our customers and the communities we serve. Supporting education and building solid relationships with institutions that strengthen our communities has always been important to me, both personally and professionally," Redman said. "I'm proud of the education I received at NYIT and am pleased to have an opportunity to join its Board of Trustees, to be a part of the institution's continued success in preparing students for their future."

Redman was appointed as Astoria's chief executive officer and elected to the Board of Directors on July 1, 2011. Since his appointment, he has established a strong, seasoned business banking team and expanded the bank's focus on multi-family and commercial real estate lending. In 2014, he oversaw the bank's rebrand to Astoria Bank, reflecting the organization's extensive range of offerings for its diverse and expanded customer base.

In addition, he is an active member of the board of directors for the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York and the New York Bankers Association, addressing issues of importance to the New York banking community. He is also a member of the American Bankers Association's American Bankers Council.

He is a director and former chairman of the board of the Tourette Association of America (TA). Under his leadership, the TA helped influence legislation, furthered education and supported cutting-edge research. His work in the community has also been recognized by such organizations as St. Francis College, SCO Family of Services, Queens Botanical Garden, Queens Council Boy Scouts of America, and Queens Theatre in the Park.

Astoria Financial Corporation, with assets of $15.5 billion, is the holding company for Astoria Bank. Established in 1888, Astoria Bank, with deposits in New York totaling $9.4 billion, is the second largest thrift depository in New York. Astoria Bank is a full-service, diversified community bank that offers four lines of business including retail and business banking, residential mortgage, and multi-family/commercial real estate lending.
