Ciao Milan! NYIT Design Students Enjoy Worldwide Furniture Fair

April 20, 2012

Milan, Italy – NYIT students are enjoying a global display of design and architecture trends as they showcase NYIT's expertise at the celebrated Milan Furniture Fair.

"Our booth is successfully up and running, and it has been simply amazing to meet so many people from countries all over the world," says Liz Cuadrado, a third-year interior design student at the School of Architecture and Design. "I am in love with all of the intriguing and creative designs presented here."

NYIT is one of 18 universities world wide – including only two universities from the United States—that were selected to participate in the SaloneSatellite for emerging and new designers.

A team of students, faculty, and alumni are exhibiting a chaise lounge created by student Barbara Schoenenberger, a desk, and a fast-moving video display. The team is also attracting attention from fairgoers eager to get one of the thousands of graffiti-inspired bicycle reflectors created by NYIT students.

"It's awesome to know these buttons are traveling to Denmark, Italy, Holland, New Zealand, and so many other places—we can't even count them!" Cuadrado says.

When they're not staffing the booth, the students are blogging, visiting other sections of the huge fair, touring the city and sampling local foods. Yesterday, they met with students from the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan to learn about their work.
