NYIT-Abu Dhabi M.S. Granted Local Accreditation

December 12, 2014

New York, NY – New York Institute of Technology's master's of science degree program in Information, Network, and Computer Security (M.S.-INCS) has been approved and will now be offered at NYIT's Abu Dhabi campus, beginning in Spring 2015. The United Arab Emirates' Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, through its Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA), has granted initial accreditation to the new graduate degree in the high-demand field of cybersecurity. NYIT is now accepting applications for its first intake of M.S.-INCS students.

The M.S.-INCS, offered by NYIT's School of Engineering and Computing Sciences, adds a third master's degree offering to NYIT-Abu Dhabi, in addition to degrees in Instructional Technology and Business Administration (M.B.A.). The U.A.E. capital's only American university to offer graduate degrees, NYIT also offers undergraduate degrees in interior design and business administration. All NYIT-Abu Dhabi degrees are recognized in both the U.S. and the U.A.E. Dozens of other American degrees are accessible to NYIT-Abu Dhabi students through the university's "Gateway to New York" program, in which students take core courses in Abu Dhabi and advanced courses in New York.

"The need for cybersecurity professionals is increasing as challenges and threats proliferate," said NYIT Provost and Academic Vice President Rahmat Shoureshi, Ph.D. "This new degree will prepare specialists who can help protect businesses in all sectors and government organizations from cyber attacks, with their related business disruptions and expenses." The M.S.-INCS program targets those who have undergraduate degrees in computer science, engineering, and related areas. Graduates can lead information technology departments within large organizations or work as consultants who help ensure safe internet practices in small and medium-sized businesses.

A leader in cybersecurity studies and research, NYIT hosts an annual cybersecurity conference in New York City and has offered the M.S.-INCS program at its New York campuses for several years. In 2014, it hosted its first global cybersecurity conference in Abu Dhabi.

"We are eager to share the benefits of this program with up-and-coming cyber experts in the U.A.E.," said NYIT-Abu Dhabi Campus Executive Director Ahmad Tabbara.
