Monique Taylor to Lead NYIT-Abu Dhabi

October 9, 2017

Abu Dhabi, UAE – New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) announces the appointment of Monique Taylor, Ph.D., an experienced senior leader in international higher education, as campus dean and executive director of NYIT-Abu Dhabi. Taylor has lived and worked in higher education institutions in the United States, Palestine, Mexico, and China prior to coming to the Emirates.

Taylor joined NYIT in 2012; previously, she was dean of NYIT’s campus in Nanjing and executive director for NYIT programs throughout China. There, she led an undergraduate campus with over 1,000 students and dozens of Western-educated faculty members. She is a sociologist by training with undergraduate and graduate degrees from Yale and Harvard. Her research, teaching, and public speaking stretches from race, inequality, and urban studies to film, food, and popular culture. For the past 15 years, she has lived and worked in the Middle East, Latin America, and Asia.

"Monique’s breadth and depth of experience in global higher education, particularly her emphasis on faculty and student exchange, international experiential learning, and building engagement with the community, will be of great value to NYIT in Abu Dhabi, to students and alumni alike,” said Lou Reinisch, NYIT Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

“I am honored to have been chosen to lead NYIT-Abu Dhabi,” said Taylor. “I especially look forward to working closely with students and faculty. Our goal is to continue growing our programs and presence in Abu Dhabi while maintaining our signature traits of high quality academics in a small and friendly community environment that feels like a family, with dedicated faculty and interesting students,” Taylor said.

NYIT established its Abu Dhabi campus in 2005 and was the U.A.E. capital's first licensed and accredited American university. More than 700 NYIT graduates now work in private and public organizations throughout the U.A.E., with thousands more across the MENA region. NYIT-Abu Dhabi degree offerings include bachelor’s degrees in interior design, business administration, and mechanical engineering and master’s degrees in information, network, and computer security, business administration, and instructional technology. All NYIT degrees offered outside the U.S. are accredited both in the U.S. and in the country where they are earned.
