NYIT Creates Alliance with Brazilian University to Offer Dual Degree Programs

June 27, 2012

New York, NY – New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), a leader in 21st-century global education, today entered into an academic cooperation agreement with Centro Universitário da FEI (Fundacao Educacional Inaciana Pe. Saboia de Medeiros), a private non-profit institution accredited by the Brazilian Ministry of Education. The agreement, intended to promote academic exchange and cooperation between the two universities, will launch dual degree programs in engineering and management beginning in January 2013.

The academic cooperation agreement was executed in a signing ceremony by NYIT President Edward Guiliano, Ph.D., and FEI Rector, Professor Fabio do Prado. It represents the first such collaboration for FEI with a U.S. institution, and NYIT's most recent alliance with a university in Brazil, the world's sixth largest economy.

"We are pleased to be entering into this agreement, marking the latest step in NYIT's effort to prepare our students to be global citizens," said President Guiliano. He noted that the alliance helps augment a "21st-century connected and networked higher education community and furthers our commitment to prepare graduates for highly competitive careers in the global economy."

"This is our first agreement with a U.S. institution that includes dual degree undergraduate and graduate programs and it marks the strong trend of internationalization of the FEI University," said Dr. Prado. He also mentioned that, "this initiative fulfills the mission of FEI in educating citizens that value people and encourages dialogue among different cultures."

Currently, the respective academic departments of both universities are working to finalize the curriculum for three dual degree offerings. These include: dual undergraduate degrees in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or engineering management through FEI's Engineering Department and NYIT's School of Engineering and Computing Sciences; dual bachelor of business administration (B.B.A.) degrees through FEI's Department of Business and Computer Science and NYIT's School of Management; and, dual master's degrees offered through each graduate school of FEI in cooperation with relevant NYIT departments or schools.
