New York, NY – New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) announced that Ahmad Tabbara has joined the university as executive director of the Abu Dhabi campus. He has more than 25 years of experience in higher education in the Middle East, previously serving in academic and administrative leadership positions at Abu Dhabi Men's College (ADMC) and part of the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) system in Abu Dhabi, as well as in various faculty positions throughout the region where he taught math and physics.

"We are delighted to welcome Mr. Ahmad Tabbara. His breadth and depth of experience in higher education, particularly his emphasis on strategic planning, partnership and business development, and technology and process management, will be of great value to NYIT in Abu Dhabi as we expand our program offerings to students in this dynamic and growing market," said Rahmat Shoureshi, Ph.D., NYIT provost and vice president for academic affairs.

Shoureshi noted that the previous campus dean, Garon Wheeler, Ph.D., will return to his faculty position as well as assume two administrative responsibilities: Campus Associate Dean and Assistant Dean for NYIT's College of Arts and Sciences programs at NYIT-Abu Dhabi.

At HCT, Tabbara most recently held the position of general manager, Education & Training; while in that role, he concurrently served as associate director, Administration & Operations, ADMC, for several years. Tabbara's other positions at ADMC included acting dean and dean, Learning Support Services; supervisor, Academic & Student Services; and acting supervisor, math and physics.

Tabbara received an M.S. in Pure Mathematics at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon and M.Sc. in Management of Information Systems at Nova Southeastern University in Florida. He is completing his Ph.D. in Management of Information Systems at Northcentral University.

NYIT established its Abu Dhabi campus in 2005 and was the U.A.E. capital's first licensed and accredited American university. Nearly 600 NYIT-Abu Dhabi graduates now work in private and public organizations throughout the U.A.E.'s growing economy.
