New York, NY – New York Institute of Technology has honored its longtime president by naming its flagship Manhattan campus building on Broadway the Edward Guiliano Global Center.

"The rise of NYIT's brand, impact, and outcomes here in New York and around the world is due to Dr. Guiliano's commitment, scholarship, and philanthropy as well as his transformational long-standing leadership," said Board of Trustees Chair Linda Davila (BS, ‘78).

Guiliano, president since 2000, joined the faculty in 1974.

"Together, we are going forward as a model global university, creating world citizens with a breadth and depth of education across disciplines and cultures that will improve society, enable many lives, and allow our institution to prosper," Guiliano said.

In a brief outdoor ceremony, Guiliano and Davila unveiled a plaque bearing the building's new name.The program continued with video tributes at the NYIT Auditorium on Broadway, congratulatory messages from Guiliano's administrative staff, NYIT Academic Senate President Daniel Quigley, student Christopher Jewth, Board of Trustee member Peter Ferentinos, and Alumni Federation President Ralph Sepe.More than 300 people attended the event.

The Edward Guiliano Global Center at the 12-story building formerly known simply with its address—1855 Broadway—is home to NYIT's library and study center, classroom and distance-learning facilities, science and computer labs, and administrative offices. NYIT purchased the building, a former hotel that was later converted into an office building, in 1976.

Guiliano, who holds degrees from Brown University and Stony Brook University, began his NYIT career as an English professor and later was named vice president for academic affairs and provost before becoming president.He continues to spend time in the classroom, teaching one course each year.The author or editor of eight books and more than 150 articles, essays, presentations and reviews, he is a renowned expert on Victorian literature, particularly the works of Charles Dickens and Lewis Carroll.

As president, he has overseen the largest renovation and construction of campus facilities in the college's history, and has implemented an ambitious strategic plan to guide the university's growth for the next two decades.He is credited with transforming the school into a global university with campuses in five other nations, implementing a range of interdisciplinary programs, enhancing the university's technology, and establishing a branding and marketing campaign.

NYIT's Manhattan campus also includes two buildings on West 61^st Street, 1849 Broadway, and the NYIT Auditorium on Broadway.
