NYIT Recognized as Military Friendly School for 2014

September 12, 2013

New York and Old Westbury, NY – New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), a leading global university, has been named to the Military Friendly Schools® list for 2014 by Victory Media, the premier media entity for military personnel transitioning into civilian life. The 2014 Military Friendly Schools list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities, and schools that are doing the most to embrace America's military service members, veterans, and spouses as students and to ensure their success on campus.

NYIT has staff dedicated to assist veteran students with admissions, military credit evaluation, financial aid, payments, and more. It also provides opportunities for veterans to be active on its Manhattan and Long Island campuses through the NYIT Veterans Club, organizing events, fundraisers, and forums to share their personal experiences. Additionally, NYIT offers a variety of degree programs at multiple campuses, internships, experiential learning, and career-focused education, as well as experienced Career Services professionals to provide career assistance and actively pursue job opportunities for each student, among other programs for veterans. NYIT was also named to the Military Friendly Schools list in 2013.

"For servicemen and women looking for an educational program that supports their personal goals after they leave military service, New York Institute of Technology provides an excellent return on investment, specifically in terms of their housing allowance and professional certification—you will find a great job after graduating from NYIT," noted Peter C. Kinney III, Chief of Staff at NYIT. A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and Harvard University, Kinney joined NYIT from the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command.

"NYIT salutes our veterans for their service, and as such works closely with them to create and foster a strong community that supports education and career goals," said Troy Miller, Associate Dean, First Year Admissions and Scholarship at NYIT, and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

An NYIT profile is featured on the Military Friendly Schools media and website, which includes interactive tools and search functionality to help military students find the best school to suit their unique needs and preferences. The 1,868 colleges, universities and schools on this year's list exhibit leading practices in the recruitment and retention of students with military experience and have world-class programs and policies for student support on campus, academic accreditation, credit policies, flexibility, and other services to those who served.

Now in its fifth year, the 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 10,000 schools nationwide approved for VA tuition funding.
