NYIT Selected to Participate in IIE's Norway Partnership Program

November 29, 2014

New York, NY – The Institute for International Education (IIE) has named New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) as one of a select group of U.S. institutions to work toward partnerships with Norwegian universities. IIE's year-long International Academic Partnership Program (IAPP) offers webinars, strategic planning counsel, and a study trip to Norway to encourage educational exchange with the U.S. universities.

NYIT Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Rahmat Shoureshi, Ph.D., noted that "NYIT's strengths in the areas of energy management, engineering for sustainability, and entrepreneurship and technology transfer make us a good partner for Norwegian institutions." Norway is a petroleum-exporting nation vulnerable to Arctic melting and has interests in both energy management and sustainability.

IAPP-Norway starts with a series of webinars and the establishment of an NYIT steering committee. The committee of NYIT faculty members and administrators will build a strategic plan for partnering with Norwegian institutions. Such partnerships can take the form of dual-degree programs and joint research projects.

A milestone in IAPP-Norway will be a working visit to Norway in April 2015. Representatives of the 12 IAPP universities will visit prospective Norwegian partner institutions, the U.S. embassy, the Fulbright Commission, EducationUSA centers, and other organizations dedicated to global academic exchange.

In addition to NYIT, IAPP-Norway includes Cornell University, Sacred Heart University, Chatham University, The University of Cincinnati, Oregon State University, Coastal Carolina University, the University of Alaska, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the University of Tennessee, the University of Delaware, and Washington and Jefferson College.

For more information, see the IIE's statement.
