New York, NY – The need for vigilance in the cyber world is escalating as increasingly invasive connectivity threatens the security of both the public and private sectors, noted Edward Guiliano, Ph.D., president of New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), in remarks opening the university's Cyber Security Conference today at the NYIT Auditorium on Broadway.

Underscoring this point, the NYIT president mentioned that the university's network defends itself against one to two million discrete attacks each day attempting to breach its firewall, with the vast majority stemming from automated attacks.

Guiliano told the audience, comprised of experts from government, private industry and academia, that as a global university educating students across borders, NYIT is committed to helping spur productive dialogue on critical issues and raising awareness to contribute to finding solutions, as well as training students to join the ranks of those fighting cyber crime. Through its School of Engineering and Computing Sciences, NYIT offers a concentration in network security for computer science majors in addition to a master's program in Internet security.
