NYIT Welcomes Irene Young as New Vancouver Campus Chief

November 1, 2016

New York, NY – NYIT (New York Institute of Technology) has appointed experienced academic leader Irene Young to be campus dean and executive director of its fast-growing campus in Vancouver, Canada. NYIT-Vancouver administers accredited master's degree programs in cybersecurity, instructional technology, energy management, and business administration.

Young comes to NYIT from Vancouver Community College (VCC), where she served as vice president for strategic partnerships and vice president for administration/chief financial officer. Prior to VCC, Young spent nine years as chief financial officer of a large school district in Metro Vancouver.

NYIT Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Rahmat Shoureshi, Ph.D., said, "Irene's extensive network of contacts throughout the education sector, business community, and in government will benefit NYIT's growing reputation as a leader in delivering career-oriented degrees and professional programs."

Young, whose current research focuses on work-integrated learning and experiential education, was attracted to NYIT's mission because "the university's programs prepare students for the workforce by providing knowledge and skills that are in high demand, which naturally leads to well-paying jobs. In addition, because NYIT is already established as a global university, its students have opportunities not available to students at other universities."

Young is earning a doctorate in education from Simon Fraser University. She also has an M.B.A. from the University of British Columbia and a bachelor of commerce from the University of Manitoba. She has been a chartered professional accountant (CMA) for 30 years.
