Old Westbury, NY – Two graduate online education programs offered by New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) are ranked among the best nationally, according to the U.S. News & World Report rankings of Best Online Programs for 2013.

NYIT's Online M.S. in Energy Management, part of the NYIT School of Engineering and Computing Sciences, was ranked among the top Online Graduate Engineering Programs by U.S. News, and the NYIT School of Education was ranked among the U.S. News Best Online Education programs.

Only degree-granting programs offering courses that are 100 percent online were considered for the rankings, according to U.S. News. These programs were assigned an overall numerical rank based on: student services and technology, student engagement, and faculty credentials and training. Admissions selectivity also factored into the rankings for all online master's degree programs, and academic peer reputation was included in the calculations for engineering and business program rankings.

"This national ranking reinforces the high quality of instruction in our online M.S. in Energy Management program, and the consistent career success of our alumni in the energy and environmental fields," said Robert N. Amundsen, Ph.D., Director, Energy Management, NYIT School of Engineering and Computing Sciences.

"The ranking recognizes the School of Education's ongoing research, community involvement, technology advancements, and programming, all of which prepare educators to improve classroom teaching and learning," said Satasha Green, Ph.D., dean of the School of Education.

Additionally, for the 15th consecutive year, NYIT is ranked a top regional university by U.S. News, and, for the first time, is named among the top 50 universities in the north in the 2013 rankings. The NYIT School of Engineering and Computing Sciences is ranked among the top engineering schools offering bachelor's or master's degrees, in the U.S. News 2013 rankings.
