How to Apply

We’re thrilled you are considering joining New York Tech’s community of doers, makers, innovators, and inventors. We review applications on a rolling basis until all spaces are filled (however, you may need to keep a few program-specific deadlines in mind). Find details about the steps of the application process below.

Before completing your online application, we recommend carefully reading all program-specific admission requirements. International students will need to fulfill additional requirements, including English proficiency and transcripts.

Complete the New York Tech Online Application unless you are applying to one of the following programs:

Farmingdale State College Students: SUNY Farmingdale students who graduate with a minimum GPA of 2.85 and meet other admissions criteria can continue their education at New York Tech in five of the school’s 30-credit M.S. degree programs: Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Readmission

If you have attended New York Institute of Technology in the past and are interested in reenrolling, learn more about readmission.

Each program has specific admissions requirements and deadlines. Be sure to familiarize yourself with them as early in the process as possible, before you complete your application and submit your supporting documents.

You will need to upload unofficial transcripts with your application and request your previous institutions to send official copies directly to New York Tech. Other supporting documents may be requested, depending on your program.

New York Tech participates in several electronic transcripts networks: National Student Clearinghouse, Parchment Exchange, Scoir, and eSCRIP-SAFE. If your prior institution does not participate with one of our networks, they may send an electronic official transcript directly to New York Tech at grad@nyit.edu. If you recently submitted supporting documents, please allow the Office of Admissions at least two to four weeks to process your materials.

If your transcripts are in a language other than English, you must submit an official English translation through a NACES-approved agency.

Applicants who have earned or are earning a degree from a university outside the United States may need to have their educational credentials evaluated by a National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) member organization. The evaluation should include U.S. credit, grade, and degree equivalents and a course-by-course evaluation.

Country-Specific Requirements

African countries:

  • Must submit an official transcript directly from your prior universities to the Admissions Office or an official course-by-course evaluation of the transcripts and an official evaluation of the degree from a NACES-approved agency.

India (3-year bachelor’s degree):

  • College of Engineering and Computing Sciences programs (including Bioengineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Advanced Certificates and all Ph.D programs; but excluding Energy Management, and Occupational Health & Safety) must submit an official course-by-course evaluation from a NACES-approved agency.
  • School of Management programs do NOT require an official evaluation of the degree from a NACES-approved agency for students who hold a three-year undergraduate degree from India. All such applications will be reviewed by the School of Management’s admissions team on a case-by-case basis and may be considered for the graduate program without BRIDGE or maybe required to submit an official course-by-course evaluation directly from a NACES-approved agency.
  • Other programs are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Other Countries are considered on a case-by-case basis. Please contact the Office of Graduate Admissions at grad@nyit.edu with questions.

If required, you may email other documents to grad@nyit.edu or fax them to 516.686.1116.

Letters of recommendation from those who know you and your academic work are a key part of the application, giving us a fuller picture of your strengths and qualities as a student. Once you start the online application, you will be prompted to request letters from those you would like to recommend you for admission to New York Tech.

All letters of recommendation submitted should be personalized, submitted in a manner consistent with the recommender’s status, and signed and dated by the recommender. Professional letters should be on company letterhead; academic letters should be on university letterhead.

Throughout the admission process, you can check the status of your application. We will communicate with you via email regarding any missing documents required for your application. If you recently submitted these items, please allow two to four weeks for us to process them.

If you have completed graduate coursework at another university, you may be able to transfer some of your credits to get a head start on your degree at New York Tech.

All international students are required to demonstrate English proficiency as part of the application process. Once admitted, students will need to submit materials to receive an I-20 “Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status.”

Applicants are required to submit the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), as administered by the Educational Testing Service, the Pearson PTE Academic Exam, the Duolingo English Test, IB English exam, or an examination deemed to be equivalent by the Office of Admissions.
