Health and Safety Reminders

Mental Health Support: If you or someone you know is experiencing emotional distress, a substance abuse crisis, or a suicidal crisis, you can receive 24/7, free and confidential help from a professional at the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Just dial 988.

Campus Access: You must have your New York Tech ID with you at all times on the New York campuses. View our campus access policies.

Tech Safe: New York Tech has launched Tech Safe, a new security app. The app includes “panic buttons” to alert Campus Security or 911, location tracing options to have your travel on-campus monitored by Campus Security or even by a friend or family member, chat and tip reporting, and an “I’m OK!” feature to let people know you’re okay in an emergency. Upcoming Events and Initiatives

Registration for Spring 2025: Registration for Intersession, Spring, Cycles C and D is ongoing. An appointment is not required to enroll in spring classes. If you haven’t done so already, you must meet with your advisor to get your advising hold lifted. To connect with your advisor, check your Engage portal. Your advisor will help you review your progress and recommend courses to keep you on track for graduation. If you’re not sure who your advisor is, you can find that info on the Find an Advisor page.

Fall 2024 Withdrawal Period: The last day to withdraw from a fall class is Thursday, December 12, and the last day to withdraw from a Cycle B class is Thursday, December 19. Note that we do not encourage withdrawals because they delay your path to graduation and add unnecessary costs to your education. Read more about withdrawals.

Thanksgiving Recess: No classes are scheduled and administrative offices are closed from Wednesday, November 27, to Sunday, December 1. Classes resume on Monday, December 2. Have a safe holiday break!  

Fall 2024 Academic Calendar: Refer to the Academic Calendar to learn about the holiday dates, registration dates for the next term, final exam period, and other important dates. 

Engage Student Success Portal: Great news! The Engage Student Success Portal is now live! This is where you can connect with your academic advisor, check your course schedule, and email your professors. For our returning students: we’re replacing Navigate, so be sure to update your bookmarks with the new link. We’d love to hear what you think—just click the “How’s it Working” button in the portal to share your feedback.

View Important Dates and Deadlines

Spring 2025 payment plans are open. Enroll early to maximize your payment options. 

Review your holds and to-do list items:  

  • To-Do List: This list displays tasks you need to complete, such as submitting a financial aid form or filing a FAFSA. If you do not complete an open “To-Do List” item, it can become a hold on your record. 
  • Holds: Not all holds will prevent you from registering for classes; some are purely informational and serve to alert you to take action. It is crucial to always click on the “Details” link under the Holds section for more information about the alert. 
  • Some items that can prevent you from registering include unpaid tuition or fees, academic advising requirements, missing admissions documents, and immunizations. For more information, contact the office displayed in the Details link. To view a list of holds and outstanding to-do list items:
    • Sign in to your my.nyit.edu account. Click on “Student Service Hub.” Click on “My Tasks.” A window will open displaying your to-dos or holds. If you have any to-do list items or a hold, click on each individual item to open information and instructions, including which department to contact to resolve the item. If your hold has no end date on it, then the hold is still active. 

Choose your refund method: If New York Tech owes you money from overpayment on a bill, you have choices on how to receive your refund. Selecting a refund method now can ensure you’ll receive any money owed to you in a timely manner. 

Here’s what you need to do to get started: 

  • Select the “Student Service Hub.” 
  • Click on “My Student Account.” 
  • Select “Choose My Refund Method.” 

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) notice for domestic students: There’s still time to file your 2024-2025 FAFSA! Log into your FSA account at studentaid.gov to file. Be sure to include New York Tech federal school code 002782.

If you are an undergraduate student and a New York State resident, you are encouraged to apply for the NYS Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) online at hesc.ny.gov. TAP is a state grant that does not have to be repaid. Be sure to enter New York Institute of Technology’s school code 2120. The Financial Aid team is here to help you navigate the financial aid process. Please contact us at finaid@nyit.edu with any questions or concerns. 

Dental Coverage: Beginning in August 2024, students enrolled in the university’s health insurance plan are automatically covered for up to $1,000 of dental benefits each year, whether using in-network or out-of-network dental service providers. 

  • There is no deductible for preventative care. 
  • A $50 deductible applies to all other routine dental work. 
  • After the deductible, basic dental care is covered at 80% and major dental work covered at 60% up to the full benefit limit. 

Faculty, staff, and students are invited to view the Fourth New York Tech Exhibition, “Dreaming of Our Roots,” from December 2, 2024 – April 30, 2025, located on the New York City campus at Gallery 61, 16 W. 61st St., 11th floor.

You may also join us for the exhibition opening on Monday, December 2, from noon-1 p.m. at Gallery 61 to celebrate the creativity and artistic talents of our community members who contributed to the exhibit. Refreshments will be served. Please contact Roger Yu at ryu@nyit.edu for more information.

Self-enroll in the ATS AI Resource Hub course 

New Canvas module: Students may self-enroll in a Canvas module for holistic student development. This provides campus resources for wellness, as well as self-paced learning and engagement for integrative self-care and self-awareness in support of student academic, personal, and professional success. This module, designed and developed in collaboration with New York Tech students, includes non-graded assignments, quizzes, and discussion boards. 

2024-2025 Housing at the New York Campuses

  • Long Island housing: Our brand-new residence hall at 120 Jericho Turnpike, located just a few minutes from the Long Island campus has housing available for the spring 2025 semester. The new residence includes modern rooms, a fitness center, laundry facilities, a swimming pool, shuttle service, a mandatory meal plan (at an additional cost) and more!
  • New York City housing: Millions dream about making their home (and their mark) in the heart of New York City. Make that dream a reality when you live at New York Tech’s safe, secure Manhattan residence hall. Located at 525 Lexington Avenue at 49th Street, in the vibrant Midtown East neighborhood, it’s just a quick bus or subway ride from New York Tech’s campus.

ITS Update: 

  • We are excited to announce a significant upgrade to our laptop kiosks to enhance your campus experience! Over the next six weeks, Information Technology Services (ITS) and the Library will replace the current kiosks with brand-new laptops, including Apple and Dell models, at all campus locations.

    Starting October 28, please visit the libraries at NYC or Old Westbury (OW) campus during this upgrade period to borrow a laptop. Our library staff will be happy to assist you with the lending process to ensure you continue to have access to the technology you need for your studies.

  • Transfer your Okta verify app before device reset or replacement: To maintain uninterrupted access to New York Tech services, please remember to transfer your Okta Verify app when resetting or replacing your device. Detailed instructions can be found on the ITS website under “Transferring Okta Verify to a New Mobile Device,” and you’ll need both your old and new devices to complete the process. Thank you for helping ensure the security of our community.

New York Tech is now offering free weekday shuttle transportation between the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) Hicksville station and the Long Island campus. To board the shuttle, you will need to present a current and valid New York Tech ID. Seating is prioritized for students. Faculty and staff may ride if there are empty seats after all students have boarded. 

The shuttle will run Monday – Friday, when classes are in session during the fall and spring semesters. View our shuttle schedule. 

Please note the schedule may be affected by inclement weather and traffic incidents beyond our control. To provide quality service, we cannot honor requests for alternate stops along or beyond the shuttle route. Professional courtesy is expected toward the driver and fellow passengers at all times when waiting for or riding the shuttle. 

Find and reserve study spaces on campus: To further support you during your academic journey, we have quiet study areas on campus. Please refer to updated maps of the Long Island and New York City campuses, which indicate areas of campus reserved for quiet study. The libraries on both New York campuses have study spaces available by reservation. Librarians are available by appointment to assist students with writing papers. 

In addition, you may also reserve a study room in Anna Rubin Hall or the Field House on the Long Island campus. The Office of Career Success and Experiential Education on both New York campuses is also pleased to offer quiet space for study or interviews. Contact career@nyit.edu for more information.  

These spaces are intended to serve as areas of quiet study, so we ask that students exhibit respectful behavior and clean up after themselves while occupying these spaces.   

511NY Rideshare: New York Tech is pleased to share 511NY Rideshare with our New York campuses. Sponsored by the New York State Department of Transportation, 511NY Rideshare provides resources and tools to empower commuters to make smart, sustainable travel choices.

Secure Shredding Program: New York Tech launched a secure shredding initiative that offers secure document disposal for students, faculty, and staff. The bins have been placed in many of the buildings on the New York City and Long Island campuses. Please visit Secure Shredding for information on bin locations and what materials can and cannot be placed in them. If you have any questions, please send an email to infosec@nyit.edu.

Enrollment Services has unveiled video tutorials and quick online service options to help you accomplish basic enrollment tasks and save a trip to their office.  

New York Tech’s library on the Long Island campus, located in Salten Hall, is open. The Architecture Library in Education Hall and the New York City library are open for you to study and access resources. Our librarians are available remotely to help you find online materials: Live chat or make an appointment for individual research assistance.   • Counseling and Wellness: If you are feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or down and need someone to talk to, our licensed mental health professionals are here to help. The Office of Counseling and Wellness provides free and confidential counseling, wellness programs, and mental health screenings to our students, and can also answer questions about health insurance, and immunizations.   • The Grizzly Cupboards on the New York campuses are now open! You can now place an online order with scheduled pick-up at the NYC Grizzly Cupboard! Long Island

  • Campus study rooms in Anna Rubin Hall and the SAC Field House can be reserved here. 
  • Education Hall has a new state-of-the-art fabrication lab along with a library and courtyard lounge on the ground floor. 
  • Salten Hall offers spaces for collaboration, quiet study (including study pods), and student lounge space. 
  • The Research Library at Salten Hall is now open. 
  • The new Serota amphitheater and Healing Pond is open. 
  • Wisser Hall has been transformed into the new School of Health Professions Building and renamed the Barbara and Peter Ferentinos Health Science Building.   
  • The Interfaith Prayer and Meditation Room is open in Harry Schure Hall. 
  • Outdoor seating parklets in Midge Karr, the medical and academic quads, and the “Parklet at the Pond” feature WiFi access. Outdoor seating is also available at the SAC. Walkways and paths are open for recreational purposes. 
  • Be aware of pedestrian traffic and egress signs at locations where renovations are being performed.

    • First semester international students are eligible for on-campus student employment through Student Aid. Student Aid roles are fully-funded by New York Tech. These positions are open to all matriculated students regardless of their financial aid package or domestic/international status. All on campus employment opportunities are posted on Handshake. The Office of Student Employment and the Office of Career Success and Experiential Education has implemented the following programs to meet the employment needs of first-year international students at New York Tech.
    • International Student Employment Fund (ISEF): is a program that intentionally sets aside a percentage of Student Aid funding to hire first and second-semester international students through on-campus employment opportunities, who would otherwise not be able to obtain employment, or career development experiences at NO COST to a hiring department! Twelve international students are selected each semester on both the New York City and Long Island campuses to receive an award of $1,200 to earn through an on-campus role.   • Share your professional voice! Consider writing a blog post for Career Chronicles! Have your blog post published and share with your network. Contact Dan Reddington with interest at dredding@nyit.edu. Blog about an internship you are doing, your career journey, your career goals, etc.  
  • Student business cards can be purchased in Handshake! Log in, search Student Business Card in Events and follow the instructions to order.  
  • Student “No Show” Guidelines and Policy. 
  • Consultants for the Public Good connects New York Tech students, faculty, staff, and alumni with non-profit organizations for skill-based community volunteer opportunities and projects.   • The Creative Impact Consultancy is primarily a video production team composed of students, faculty, and staff members. Consultants will gain valuable experience while developing technical camera skills as well as soft skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, team building, and more. 
  • Our mission is to work with New York Tech and external non-profit organizations to deliver high-quality videos. These videos will hopefully help these organizations promote themselves, communicate with their audience, and visually represent what they do. Because this is subjective in nature, needs and goals will vary for each organization and so will our jobs and workflows.
