Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency
Our post-professional clinical residency program in orthopedic physical therapy further prepares you to become a confident, adaptable, and service-oriented practitioner. You’ll balance critical thinking, ethics, and professional judgment to address patients’ needs and promote their health. You’ll also contribute to the physical therapy profession through practice, teaching, administration, and the discovery and application of new knowledge.
New York Tech has partnered exclusively with Professional Physical Therapy to offer a dynamic and educational experience for the residents. Students will have the option to teach either in New York Tech’s orthopedic courses or in Professional’s in-house continuing education program, while they also complete the clinical requirements in one of Professional PT’s multiple clinical locations in the tri-state area
During your residency, you will:
- Earn a salary of $60,000.
- Receive health care benefits (though you’ll need to pay for your own Healthcare Providers Service Organization liability insurance).
The New York Tech Residency is an APTA-accredited program. This program will provide you with the skills, knowledge, and experiences necessary to master the OCS exam.

- Become a recognized leader in the future of physical therapy as tied to the American Physical Therapy Association’s Beyond Vision 2020.
Application Process
- Apply through RF-PTCAS
- A New York Tech selection committee consisting will review applications.
- If selected, you will be contacted for an interview with the residency director.
- You’ll also be required to perform a mock evaluation to assess your communication skills.
- All materials must be submitted by March 31.

Objectives
We prepare you to:
- Perform accurate and efficient evidence-based examinations and evaluations on a full spectrum of orthopedic diagnoses.
- Design evidence-based plans of care, integrating skills in clinical reasoning and regional interdependence.
- Provide advanced orthopedic skills in the areas of manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, functional activity, and patient education.
- Integrate effective interpersonal and communication skills in all areas of practice related to orthopedic injuries.
- Disseminate information on the effectiveness of physical therapy practices in communities and athletic/fitness facilities.
- Develop teaching skills in the areas of anatomy, physiology, and manual therapy.
- Achieve board certification as an orthopedic clinical specialist.
Admissions Requirements
- Masters or doctorate in physical therapy.
- At least four months of clinical experience in physical therapy providing direct patient care with an accompanying letter of reference from the clinical instructor or physical therapist.
- Though we do not require a license at the time of the application, you are required to pass the National Board Certification Exam prior to initiating your clinical work.
- Note: we accept up to three residents per year.
