You’ll receive the training needed to qualify for proper licensing, obtain your D.O. degree, and qualify for medical residency. You’ll study the principles and practices of osteopathic medicine and complete courses in specialized areas such as child abuse prevention, infection control, and medical Spanish.
Admission to the Émigré Physicians Program is highly selective and competitive. Candidates are chosen based on academic excellence, an in-person interview, and other criteria.

The four-year Émigré Physicians Program (EPP) retrains émigré physicians who were born and educated outside the United States to become Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.). NYITCOM is the only medical school in the United States offering such a program and it is offered only at the Long Island campus.

Applicants for the Osteopathic Medicine, D.O. – Émigré Program must meet the following criteria:
Be born outside the U.S. and be a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Permanent Resident at the time of application (Green Card should expire after graduation date). Visa holders are not eligible to apply.
Possess a valid Foreign Medical Degree from an accredited university equivalent to the M.D. degree in the United States. The foreign medical institution should not be accredited by the United States Department of Education and as such should not qualify for U.S. federal financial aid.
If you have started any U.S. Residency program, you are not eligible to apply.
Application Materials:
Complete the Émigré Physicians Program Application online and submit the nonrefundable $195 application fee
Submit a course-by-course evaluation, TOEFL, letters of recommendation, and a resume or curriculum vitae.
If you have attended any U.S. college or university you are required to submit ALL official transcripts.
Applicants invited for an interview are required to take an Entrance Examination.
Applicants opting to submit Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) scores may be exempt from the Entrance Exam.
A domestic and an international Criminal Background Check from all countries lived in is required once accepted.
The College of Osteopathic Medicine is institutionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). The Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program receives its program accreditation from the American Osteopathic Association Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA).
Being an international medical graduate limits my options in the United States. Once I heard about the Émigré Physicians Program, I thought that becoming a U.S. graduate would be a great chance to pursue my dream and do what I really love.
