Why Major in Architecture at New York Tech?

New York Tech’s Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) program is a professional, studio-based program designed to enhance your unique talents and abilities through learning-by-making, using advanced architectural technology and up-to-date design and fabrication strategies. The program begins with a two-year common core curriculum shared with interior design students, covering design studios, visualization, architectural history, and liberal arts courses such as English composition, math, physics, and social sciences.

You’ll be prepared for licensure and certification from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and New York State, with reciprocity in other states. First-year design studios introduce basic 2-D and 3-D design principles. By the second year, you’ll tackle more complex design challenges. In your third year, you’ll focus on small building programs, while your fourth year emphasizes comprehensive building design, and urban and community design. In the fifth year, a thesis project integrates research and design to demonstrate a thorough understanding of architectural principles.

Renowned for its focus on design, building technology, and digital fabrication, the program includes courses covering building materials, structural and environmental systems, and construction management, ensuring technical competence and readiness for professional practice.

Tailor your degree by taking experimental courses, working side-by-side with renowned architects and researchers, and completing a one-year research and design thesis on a complex architectural topic of your choosing. Flourish in equitable and diverse courses, where students are assigned to design studios based on their prior experience and academic performance.

Take advantage of diverse summer study abroad programs, studio trips, and design workshops in countries such as Japan, Italy, Spain, and India. These programs provide students with global architectural insights and can be credited toward their degree.
