Master the fundamentals of classical and modern physics, get a solid foundation in experimental techniques, and then jumpstart your career with a range of related minors and elective courses.

Why Major in Physics at New York Tech?

In our Physics, B.S. program you’ll learn the advanced mathematical skills you’ll need to analyze complex physical systems and solve tough problems in physics and other quantitative fields like data science and finance. 

Our program features small classes taught by outstanding faculty, who infuse their courses and research with cutting-edge computational tools and engaging visualizations. 

Apply your knowledge to research in our well-equipped laboratories, featuring state-of-the-art optical microscopy, imaging technology, robotics, and rapid prototyping, or at local institutions such as the American Museum of Natural History. Work one-on-one with faculty who are active researchers with expertise in string theory, plasma physics, quantum informatics, solid-state physics, astrophysics, biophysics, and imaging. 

Student entrepreneurs will have the support of faculty from the College of Engineering and Computing Sciences and the Schools of Management and Architecture and Design. And if you’re interested in biomedical sciences, our College of Osteopathic Medicine provides access to exceptional faculty and research opportunities. 

Our Accelerated (4+1) program offers you the opportunity to obtain your teaching certificate at an accelerated rate. Earn your Physics, B.S. and Adolescent Education, M.A.T. in just five years.

Quantum Informatics Concentration

The optional Quantum Informatics Concentration will further train graduates to be uniquely competitive in the emerging area of quantum technology. Immerse yourself in the field through a student-launched Quantum Research Group for self-study in quantum computing and quantum information.

Application Materials:

  • Completed application
  • $50 nonrefundable application fee
  • Copies of transcripts of all high school work, including college-level courses.
  • Official SAT (critical reading and math only) or ACT test scores. You have the option of submitting results from the previous or redesigned SAT.
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • 300–350 word essay

Deadlines:

  • First-Year Priority Deadline: December 1
  • Regular Admission: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling admission basis, as long as space is available.
  • International Student Deadlines: December 1 for the spring semester and July 1 for the fall semester.

New York Tech offers scholarships based on your academic achievements and potential. Most awards are renewable if you continue to meet eligibility requirements, making a significant difference in your total cost of attendance.

International F-1 students who successfully complete this degree program are eligible for an additional 24-month STEM OPT extension to work in the U.S. in an area directly related to their area of study immediately upon completing the customary 12-month post-completion Optional Practical Training (OPT)
