M.F.A. Applicants Without a Portfolio

For Graphic Design and Media Innovation Applicants

If you intend to apply to the M.F.A. program but do not yet have a portfolio, you must develop one before applying.

To help you develop art skills and a portfolio, the Digital Art and Design department recommends you complete the classes listed below. These courses are not required and their credits do not apply toward the graduate degree.

Please understand that although these classes are useful for developing a portfolio, there is no guarantee that a student will be accepted upon completion of the coursework.

  • Drawing 1 ARTW 101 and/or Drawing 2 ARTW 151
  • 2D Design 1 ARTD 101
  • Graphic Design 1 ARTG 201
  • Typography ARTG 302
  • Computer Graphics 1 ARTC 201 (and Computer Graphics 2 ARTC 251, if need be)
