D.O. / Ph.D. Fact Sheet

  • This is a 2, 3 or 4, 2 program: 2 years medical school preclinical coursework, 3-4 years graduate school and thesis research, 2 years medical school clinical rotations.
  • Who can apply?
    • Applicants to medical school
    • Second-year students at the beginning of year 2
  • Two or three students are admitted each year.

  • Medical school applicants
  • Second-year applicants
    • Indicate interest in program at beginning of year 2
    • Required admissions materials:
      • College transcript—from AACOMAS application
      • MCAT scores—from AACOMAS application
      • Letters of reference—from AACOMAS application
      • Medical school transcript to date—from Academic Affairs
      • CV—sent by applicant
      • Essay explaining interest in program—sent by applicant
      • Two or three letters of reference related to research experience—sent by reference directly to program director
  • All additional requested materials should be sent to dophd@nyit.edu, indicating they are additional materials for application to the NYITCOM D.O. / Ph.D. Program.

  • Admission to medical school
  • For 2nd year students – in top 50% of medical school class

  • In top 50% of medical school class
  • Pass COMLEX 1 on first try; NYITCOM must receive notice of a passing score on COMLEX 1 by July 7 of the student’s second year

  • Maintain B average in graduate school classes
  • Pass doctoral qualifying examination – research proposal
  • Complete doctoral thesis research and submit doctoral thesis
  • Pass doctoral thesis examination

  • The medical school covers entire amount of:
    • Medical school tuition.
    • Graduate school tuition.
    • Graduate school stipend.
  • The student is responsible for:
    • Living expenses during medical school portion of program.
    • Additional living expenses as needed during graduate portion of program.
