Center for Facility & Infrastructure Systems (CFIS)

Welcome to CFIS

New York Tech College of Engineering and Computing Sciences has established the Center for Facility and Infrastructure Systems (CFIS) to provide technical assistance and professional development to facilities managers and executives. CFIS offers workshops, seminars, and training sessions in partnership with organizations in a wide variety of industries.

Goals

Teams of New York Tech faculty and students work with affiliated experts to achieve the following goals:

  • Enhance student experience by providing opportunities to collaborate with working professionals and learn how to use energy equipment in field settings.
  • Conduct research that identifies potential improvements in the condition of buildings and other structures and demonstrates effective programs for implementing upgrades.
  • Provide a forum for the exchange of ideas among stakeholders, including policymakers, owners, managers, and local residents, with the aim of solving real-world problems.

Academic Programs

The College of Engineering and Computing Sciences offers graduate programs in energy management, facilities management, infrastructure security management, and related fields. These programs offer significant opportunities for career advancement. Courses are available in online and in-person formats.

Professional Development

CFIS offers advanced seminars for managers and engineers who are responsible for the design, operation, and maintenance of facilities and related infrastructure. Continuing education and certification preparation options are available. These seminars enable participants to acquire valuable skills and credentials.

Applied Research

New York Tech’s Entrepreneurship and Technology Innovation Center (ETIC) offers state-of-the-art labs and facilities, investor networks, and research partnerships in cybersecurity, bioengineering, and green technologies. Organizations and individuals who participate in seminars and workshops hosted by CFIS will be introduced to the experts and resources available at ETIC.

Projects

The following are examples of recent CFIS proposals and activities:

  • Design competition for a museum facility powered by renewable energy.
  • Analysis of energy, economic, and environmental benefits of scaled-down buildings.
  • Study of mobility options including trams, dedicated lanes, moving walkways, and automated vehicles.
  • Integration of energy storage and offshore wind generation for coastal communities.

Networking

Engineers and facilities managers face unique challenges when searching for professional contacts. CFIS hosts events focusing on emerging industries such as energy storage, building automation, smart grids, and offshore wind. These events provide access to key individuals and provide useful information about current issues, specialized technologies, and employment opportunities.
