UREP

Undergraduate Research and Entrepreneurship Program

Work on research or entrepreneurship projects in a group setting, under the guidance of faculty mentors. Our Undergraduate Research and Entrepreneurship Program (UREP), provides each research team with $500 to cover the cost of supply and materials. Projects will run for the entirety of the school year (two semesters).

Participation Requirements

To participate in UREP, you must:

  • Maintain a 3.2 GPA
  • Work in a team of two to four students
  • Identify and meet with a faculty mentor who will help you finalize your project proposal. Please refer to the faculty mentor portfolio page to identify the research interests of the faculty mentors before scheduling your meeting.
  • Submit a research project proposal

Guidelines for Proposal Submission

  • Step 1: Explore what research projects are available and offered by the faculty mentors and find team members.
  • Step 2: As a team, write a one-page research proposal and in consultation with your faculty mentor. The proposal must identify the objective of the project and include an outlined project plan with timeline, milestones, and deliverables. Please refer to the sample proposal when preparing for your submission.
  • Step 3: Submit an application, including approved proposal with your faculty mentor’s signature. Due October 20, 2024.
  • Step 4: The Faculty Mentor Committee will review the proposal and notice of project approval will be sent to both the student group and their faculty mentors.

Project Requirements

  • Team members must meet with their faculty mentors at least once a week to discuss issues related to their project and research role.
  • The team must also provide a weekly progress report, in addition to any other assigned deliverables.
    • Students who fail to attend group meetings or to produce deliverables as assigned will receive a written warning from their faculty mentor.
    • Students who receive two warnings and, in the opinion of the faculty mentor, show no improved behavior, will be removed from their project.
    • You may also be dropped from the UREP if you cannot maintain the required 3.2 GPA.
  • At the end of the term, the team must complete an end-of-term evaluation focused on the UREP experience, project progress and accomplishments, and plans for future collaboration, and include feedback from all team members and their faculty mentors.
  • All teams will be required to make a poster presentation before the Faculty Mentor Committee at the end of each semester.

Deadline to apply is October 20.
