New York Tech Advance: Frequently Asked Questions

Student Eligibility, Registration & Payment

High school students must have a sophomore or higher standing and a minimum cumulative average of a B (80 or higher). An academic department, in consultation with the academic dean, may impose additional and/or stricter criteria for a given course, at their discretion.

The number of courses that you can take for college credit depends on the number of courses offered by your high school and your own academic capabilities. The work is demanding, and all students taking college credit courses should be properly advised by their high school guidance counselor prior to registration.

Enrollment is completed online via a registration form provided to you by your high school teacher and/or via a Student Welcome Packet provided by New York Tech.

Course enrollment is confirmed upon submission of the online registration form and payment as well as eligibility confirmation by your teacher. Should you wish to withdraw from a New York Tech Advance course, regardless of continued participation in the high school course, you must notify the New York Tech Advance Office at nyitadvance@nyit.edu

REFUND POLICY

  • A 100% refund is granted for courses dropped during the registration period.
  • After the registration period, students are fully responsible for all program fees.
  • Students who do not meet the eligibility criteria, as determined and confirmed by their teacher, will be dropped from the course and receive a full refund.

WITHDRAWAL POLICY AND PROCEDURE

To withdraw you must provide the following information by email to nyitadvance@nyit.edu, at least two weeks prior to the end of the course:

  • Your first and last name.
  • Name of the high school your are attending.
  • Course(s) and period number from which to withdraw.
  • Teacher’s name.

Courses dropped during the registration period will not be reflected on the final transcript. After the registration period ends, any withdrawal will result in a “W” grade on your transcript. Failure to follow this procedure results in continued enrollment and potential failing grades for incomplete work. Official course withdrawals can only be processed by the New York Tech Advance Office.

College Credit & Transfer Policies

New York Tech Advance awards college credit based on the grade that you earn for the entire class, once you successfully complete it. AP courses allow you to earn college credit based only on the score you receive on the AP exam. In both cases, a minimum grade or score is required by the college that you will attend.

Yes! Most colleges will accept New York Tech credits. We highly recommend that you contact the colleges that you are interested in attending to ask about specific transfer credit policies. Most colleges require a minimum grade of “C-” or better (potentially higher depending on your major).

Instructions on requesting a transcript can be found on New York Tech Advance.

Grading Policies

The undergraduate grading policy at New York Tech must be followed as indicated in the most current catalog.

Most institutions do not use course grades for transfer credit in their determination of a student’s GPA at that school. However, the grade you earn in your course is part of your permanent record and will count toward your GPA if you attend New York Tech.
