Portfolio Evaluations
Life Experience Portfolio Evaluation
A life experience portfolio is a collection of materials documenting and verifying prior learning for a New York Tech course required in the student’s degree program. Credit can be awarded based on work experience and knowledge gained outside the traditional classroom. Portfolios must include content that demonstrates college-level learning acquired for a specific course. Each life experience portfolio is unique, but typically it should be comprised of the following:
- Prior Learning cover sheet
- Resume
- Detailed job descriptions
- Essay that details how knowledge for the particular course was acquired
- Recommendation letters from supervisors
- Any other specific documentation that demonstrates knowledge of the New York Tech course requirements
Please refer to the Prior Learning Evaluation Guide for further information on the specifics of a portfolio evaluation. Contact the Office of Prior Learning for advisement before submitting a portfolio. Reach out to this office at 516.686.7914 or at evaluations@nyit.edu.
The fee for life experience portfolio review is $300 per credit.
