Kinesiology, Advanced Certificate

Gain the graduate-level knowledge and real-world skills you need to excel as a professional in exercise-related fields. You’ll be able to develop targeted fitness training programs and nutrition plans to improve performance. You will also be prepared to prescribe evidence-based exercises to improve fitness related outcomes, not just for athletes, but for the general public and those with chronic diseases.

What You’ll Learn

New York Tech's nine-credit advanced certificate program in kinesiology offers an in-depth examination of the physiological processes that underlie human performance. Through lectures, discussions, and laboratory exercises, you will study the ways the body responds to and adapts to exercise, training, detraining, and environmental stress. You'll learn how to interpret and apply relevant research findings to practical situations.

You will investigate the role of nutrition in optimizing sports performance and exercise, developing integrated approaches to optimizing sports performance and exercise.

The principles and practices of strength and conditioning for athletes, healthy adults, and special populations is another aspect of the field you will learn about. You will delve into the latest research on strength, power training, and effective training programs for diverse populations.

And your studies will also cover the principles and applications of biomechanics as they relate to human performance in sports, other physical activities, and human movement.

Career Options

  • Exercise Physiologist
  • Kinesiologist
  • Personal Trainer
  • Wellness Coordinator
  • Sports Nutritionist

“With our advanced certificate in kinesiology, you'll be able to deepen your understanding of human movement and performance while also enhancing your career prospects in a rapidly growing field.”

How You’ll Succeed

After coursework in New York Tech's exercise physiology laboratory, the advanced certificate in kinesiology prepares you for a career as a practitioner in exercise-related fields. Your mastery of enhanced theoretical knowledge and the ability to apply it to practical applications will give you the ability to describe optimal nutrient intake patterns and ergogenic aids to improve exercise performance and adaptation.

In addition, you'll be ready to communicate how system-level physiological factors affect the human body's response and adaptation to exercise. Your skill set will include the ability to evaluate exercise form and function, and to prescribe evidence-based exercises to improve fitness related outcomes.
