Dean Babak D. Beheshti, Ph.D., and the Dean’s Executive Advisory Board invite you to celebrate the year’s past accomplishments and the success of our alumni at the Fourth Annual Ingenium Awards Reception on Thursday, April 24, from 6 – 9 p.m. at NYIT de Seversky Mansion in Old Westbury, N.Y.

This event provides a great opportunity to network with industry professionals, celebrate success, and inspire and support New York Tech’s College of Engineering and Computing Sciences students.

Soyeb Barot (M.S. ’05)z

Soyeb Barot (M.S. ’05)

Chief of Research (GTP) at Gartner, Inc.

Soyeb Barot is chief of research for Gartner for Technical Professional (GTP) product, where he is responsible for the content strategy that supports the technical domain architects across the domains of data and analytics, security, software engineering, infrastructure and operations, and enterprise apps. He earned his master’s degree in computer science from New York Tech in 2005 and is currently an adjunct professor teaching software engineering within the master’s program. Barot has led enterprise data science teams in the past, providing deep technical expertise on topics of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and advanced analytics across multiple industries—insurance, banking, retail, media, and information system domains. He has been a speaker at various industry conferences and plays a pivotal role in building future-state architectures and leading digital transformation initiatives for Fortune 250 enterprises globally.

Andra Voicu (B.S. ’08)

President at Mac Fhionnghaile and Sons Electrical Contracting Inc.

Andra Voicu earned her degree in electrical and computer engineering from New York Institute of Technology in 2008, paving the way for her career in the construction industry. She currently serves as the president of Mac Fhionnghaile and Sons Electrical Contracting Inc., a WBE-certified company specializing in heavy industrial and government electrical installations, with a strong emphasis on energy efficiency and green energy solutions.

Voicu brings extensive expertise to her work, having collaborated with numerous New York City and state agencies, including the New York Power Authority, New York City Housing Authority, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and the State University Construction Fund, among others.

An active leader in her field, Voicu is a board member of the WCOE Metro NY Chapter and the Lighting the Way for Girls in S.T.E.A.M. Foundation. She is a passionate advocate for increasing opportunities for girls in engineering and empowering women in non-traditional career paths.

Khalid Hachil

Khalid Hachil (M.S. ’19)

Electrical Engineer at Stantec

Khalid Hachil is an electrical engineer at Stantec. Hachil received his master’s degree in electrical and computer engineering from New York Institute of Technology in 2019. Hachil’s impressive accomplishments include 2023 Long Island Business News 30 Under 30 Award, 2024 Huntington Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals 30 Under 30 Award, 2024 EC&M 30 Under 30 All Star Award, 2024 Healthcare Hero, 2024 NYSSPE Young Engineer of the Year, 2024 Long Island Business News Rising Star in Engineering, and 2024 NSPE Emerging Leader. Hachil holds professional engineering licenses in the State of New York, Nevada, and Mississippi. Hachil is also certified as a LEED accredited professional in building design and construction, which designates him as a professional in the design of green buildings.

Hachil started his career in engineering through multiple internships prior to graduation in 2016. After completing five years in the industry, he joined Stantec in 2019. Stantec is the largest multinational, multidiscipline architecture and engineering design and consulting firm.

In his work at Stantec, Hachil prioritizes client satisfaction through action and presence, delivering high-quality designs that meet clients’ needs and priorities, while also considering public safety, and the environment. The projects that he works on range from commercial buildings, high-rise buildings, railroad, schools, university campus, distribution centers, emergency service buildings, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, water districts, wastewater districts, defense, pharmaceutical, LEED accredited buildings, transportation projects, airports, manufacturing facilities, public parks projects, and buildings over 1,000,000 square feet.

Hachil has completed projects in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Texas, California, Hawaii, Arizona, Maine, Oregon, and Nevada.

As an instructor for the FE electrical and computer engineering course at Kaplan – PPI2Pass, Hachil leverages his educational and professional experience to guide students toward success in passing the FE exam. Hachil is also an engineering advisor for Prosple, a platform that helps students and graduates find career and study opportunities.

At Prosple, Hachil has helped publish an article in 2024 titled “How to Break into Electrical Engineering as a Student.” Hachil has published an article with Engineering.com in 2022 titled “How to Prepare for Your Fundamentals of Engineering Exam”. Hachil had a presentation on Professional Engineers Day in 2023 titled “The Benefits of Professional Licensure for Engineers” and in 2024 titled “Navigating the Licensure Process and Exam Day.” The articles and presentations were intended to inform people about engineering, career fairs, resumes, interviews, internships, jobs, and the career benefits of the FE and PE licensure.

Hachil had such an influence on the engineering field that New York Institute of Technology wrote an article about him in 2024 titled “Using His Engineering Degree to Change the World.” In 2024, Hachil started his own company called Hachil Engineering.
