What to Expect

Faculty Insights: Gain general information about the math program at New York Tech. Learn how math strengthens your portfolio in the job market and enhances your prospects in today’s competitive workforce.

Guest Lectures: Ethan Berkove, chair and professor of mathematics at Lafayette College, Penn., will engage the audience in origami paper folding, providing an introductory talk on some interactions between mathematics and art. Rama Mishra, professor from ISSER, Pune, India, will demonstrate tricks with knots and the underlying mathematics.

Discover how you can apply math knowledge, including calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, and numerical methods, to solve real-world problems in your major. Interact with math major and minor students at New York Tech and other colleges
during our poster presentation sessions.

There will be student poster presentations from college-level high school participants engaging in mathematical research projects beyond their classroom studies. Prizes will be awarded for the best research posters in each category. Certificates will be given to all poster participants.

Interactive guest lectures will be engaging and fun, and involve logical thinking in underlying mathematics.

10:05 – 10:15 a.m. Why Math (by Vitaly Katsnelson)
10:15 – 19:15 a.m. Mathematics and Origami: folding, models, and art
11:15 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Posters by high school students, judged by New York Tech faculty. Lunch will be provided.
12:30 – 1 p.m. Knotty Mathematics: demonstration and talk
1 – 2 p.m. Posters by college student participants, judged by New York Tech faculty
2 – 2:30 p.m. Certificates, awards, and concluding remarks
