Concurrent Programs
Earn Two Degrees in Four Years
The College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM), in cooperation with New York Tech’s School of Health Professions and School of Management, has developed a unique set of programs that allow our medical students to earn two degrees within the usual structured four-year medical curriculum. (Though students may complete the concurrent degree within the same timeframe as the D.O. program, they are not required to do so, except for the M.S. in Academic Medicine, which must be completed within an extended five-year period. Students must have successfully matriculated and completed their first year at NYITCOM to apply to one of these concurrent programs. Enrollment is contingent upon NYITCOM approval.
Management, M.B.A.
Enhance your efficiency and skills as a clinician by earning an M.B.A. online while pursuing your D.O. degree. The M.B.A. program, offered by our School of Management, will help you learn to effectively manage resources, including time, money, equipment, and personnel, and prepare you to cope with practice management, HMOs, and the administration of academic healthcare centers, hospitals, and clinical departments. The online M.B.A. curricular program culminates in nine elective credits relating to healthcare management and a three-credit capstone course. Enrollment in this concurrent degree program is contingent upon College of Osteopathic Medicine approval.
Master of Public Health (M.P.H.)
This two-year, fully online, 48-credit M.P.H. program provides the necessary training for physicians planning on working in the public health system, including providing historical context of public health, essential functions, policies and principles, and current challenges to develop leaders in the field. The training also includes a 200-hour practicum in the field, offering hands-on experience and firsthand knowledge of public health issues and solutions.
Master of Science in Academic Medicine (M.S.)
Highly successful second-year students in good academic standing are invited to apply for this competitive merit-based opportunity to spend an additional year at NYITCOM obtaining two degrees—a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and a Master of Science in Academic Medicine—while gaining supervised research and teaching experience.
As you pursue these two degrees, you’ll study the holistic philosophy of osteopathic medicine and hone your expertise in diagnosing biomedical and clinical disorders. You’ll study advanced topics, such as biostatistics and epidemiology, and perfect your practical skills, including doctor-patient interactions and research methodology in medical education.
The concurrent D.O. and M.S. program is part of NYITCOM’s Academic Medicine Scholars Program, designed to prepare outstanding medical students for careers in academic medicine, including medical education, research, and clinical practice in an academic healthcare setting. The program addresses the need for trained professionals in both osteopathic medicine and clinical/biomedical sciences who can bring their expertise into the classroom and research laboratory.
Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition (M.S.)
Develop the skills to utilize nutrition in the practice of preventative medicine, wellness, and total healthcare in this fully online degree program. You’ll study preclinical medical science and take courses on the molecular and cellular roles of nutrients in maintaining health and preventing disease. Coursework in nutrition assessment, medical nutrition therapy, and nutrition support will enhance your ability to access nutrition resources for patients. Interactive discussions with nutrition faculty and colleagues provide an understanding of how nutrient status can be altered by the patient’s genetic profile, underlying disease processes, concurrent drug and medical therapy, and lifestyle. Under faculty guidance, you’ll access nutrition support for patients in acute and chronic conditions, and critically evaluate the plethora of nutrition information available to patients and professionals. Upon successful completion of both the D.O. and M.S. programs, you will be eligible to apply for credentialing as a physician nutrition specialist.
Master of Science in Medical/Healthcare Simulation (M.S.)
The Medical/Healthcare Simulation, M.S. is a two-year program completed almost entirely online and taught by professionals who work in healthcare simulation. The program is designed to provide students with the foundational skills and knowledge needed to work in any healthcare simulation center. Applications are reviewed on a rolling admission basis, as long as space is available.

Global Health Certificate
The nine-credit global health certificate offers the next generation of physicians a thorough understanding of emerging trends in medicine, science, policy, and innovation across the globe. In class and during a two- to four-week global fieldwork trip, you’ll work side-by-side with our expert faculty in the Center for Global Health who are at the top of their field, providing expertise in osteopathic medical techniques, primary care, pediatrics, emergency medicine, non-communicable and infectious diseases, and population health.
