Honor Societies

For Students in All Academic Programs

  • Chi Alpha Epsilon: Chartered in 2011, Chi Alpha Epsilon (XAE) National Honor Society promotes and recognizes academic excellence of students in academic support programs such as the Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP). XAE maintains an active presence on the New York City campus, mentoring and engaging in community service activities, including fundraising walks and collection drives.
  • Golden Key International Honour Society: Founded in 1977, Golden Key recognizes undergraduate and graduate students from all majors for their academic achievements with a mission to enable members to realize their potential through the advancement of academics, leadership, and service. New York Tech welcomed our first students into Golden Key in 2004, and membership is by invitation only to students who are sophomores and above (have earned 24 credits–at least 12 from New York Tech) and have achieved at least a 3.5 GPA. Our chapter organizes community service, social, and career-oriented activities based on members’ interests, and members are specially recognized at commencement.   • Phi Eta Sigma: The oldest and largest freshman honor society, Phi Eta Sigma was founded in 1923 and has more than 365 chapters and 975,000 members. New York Tech inducted our first students into Phi Eta Sigma in 2004. To qualify for membership, you must receive a 3.5 or higher GPA during the fall or spring semester of your first year.   • National Society of Leadership and Success: NSLS is the nation’s largest leadership honor society with 500 chapters and 588,541 members. Also known as Sigma Alpha Pi, the society helps students to develop leadership skills through a five-step program that is completed on campus. The New York Tech chapter inducted our first students in spring 2014 and continues to have a growing presence on campus. For more information, email studentlife@nyit.edu.

School- and Program-Specific Honor Societies

  • Alpha Epsilon Rho (communication arts and broadcasting): Founded in 1941 and sponsored by the National Broadcasting Society, Alpha Epsilon Rho has nearly 100 chapters on college and high school campuses.
  • Alpha Eta (School of Health Professions): With the motto “Together We Serve” Alpha Eta promotes and recognizes significant scholarship, leadership, and contributions to the allied health professions.
  • Alpha Phi Sigma (criminal justice): Open to undergraduate and graduate students of criminal justice, this national honor society recognizes and promotes academic excellence, community service, educational leadership, and unity.
  • Beta Beta Beta: National Biological Honor Society: Founded in 1922, Beta Beta Beta (Tri-Beta) is dedicated to improving the understanding and appreciation of biological study and extending boundaries of human knowledge through scientific research. New York Tech’s Rho Delta Alpha Chapter was chartered in 2015.
  • Chi Sigma Iota (school counseling): This international honor society was established in 1985 to promote scholarship, research, professionalism, leadership and excellence in counseling, and to recognize high attainment in the pursuit of academic and clinical excellence in the profession of counseling. New York Tech’s chapter is Nu Chi Pi.
  • Delta Mu Delta (business): With a motto of “through knowledge, power,” this international honor society was founded in 1913. It recognizes and encourages academic excellence while encouraging lifelong membership.
  • Phi Theta Epsilon (occupational therapy): New York Tech is home to the Beta Omega chapter of this national honor society for occupational therapy students.
  • Psi Chi (psychology): Founded in 1929 with a mission of encouraging and maintaining excellence in scholarship while advancing the science of psychology, Psi Chi has chapters at more than 1,000 colleges in the United States and Canada.   • SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society: Formed in 2009, SALUTE is the first national academic honor society established for student veterans. Each chapter symbolizes not only the collective achievement of veterans bettering themselves through the pursuit of knowledge, but also our commitment as a group to honor those among us that are the tip of the spear across the nation.
  • Tau Alpha Pi (engineering and technology): Founded in 1953, Tau Alpha Pi is open to associate and bachelor degree candidates.
  • Tau Sigma Delta (architecture): New York Tech’s Gamma Zeta chapter was organized in 1993. For more information, email the School of Architecture and Design at arch@nyit.edu.
  • Upsilon Pi Epsilon (computing and information science): This international honor society, established in 1967, recognizes academic excellence at the undergraduate and graduate level.
