How to Apply

Thank you for your interest in New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM). We are committed to training osteopathic physicians for a lifetime of learning and practice and the scholarly pursuit of new knowledge concerning health and disease. We look forward to welcoming you to our community of healers.

Before completing your online application, we recommend carefully reading all program-specific admission requirements and the Technical Standards required for successful matriculation into the medical program.

To apply to NYITCOM, visit aacom.org. The AACOMAS online application allows you to submit an application to us through a secure web server. Once it is processed and verified, the admissions office will receive your completed application.

NYITCOM requires three letters of recommendation to be sent via the AACOMAS system. We do not accept letters that are emailed or mailed to the admissions office.

We require:

  • A Pre-health Committee Letter/Composite Letter (Preferred)

OR

  • Three individual letters to include:
    • Two individual faculty letters (at least one from science) from faculty who have taught you.
    • One letter from a supervisor in long-term work, service, research, or clinical experience. If you cannot provide a letter from a supervisor, you may provide an additional faculty letter.

In addition, we strongly recommend:

  • D.O./M.D. letters from non-family members.

If you have been out of college for more than two years and can no longer reasonably obtain a committee letter or letters from faculty, you may submit three letters from the following professional sources in place of the pre-health advisory committee letter or faculty letters:

  • Supervisors, current or former. The letter must include the length of your employment, their professional relationship to you, and information about your competencies, accomplishments, and potential for success in medical school. Contact information for the letter writer must be included.
  • Directors of professional associations of which you have been a member for at least one year. The letter should include information about your professional qualities, skills, capabilities, and potential for success in medical school. Contact information for the letter writer must be included.

All applicants to NYITCOM are also required to complete our Supplemental Application, at which time, you will be required to:

  • Pay the $80 non-refundable fee or submit your unique fee waiver code.
  • State the campus/site you are interested in attending: Long Island, N.Y. or Jonesboro, Ark.* (NOTE: The NYITCOM Admissions Committee reserves the right to recommend the best campus fit for you based upon your complete application.)

We will email you a secure link to our Supplemental Application once you submit your completed AACOMAS application. Your application to NYITCOM will not be considered complete until all Supplemental Application questions have been answered and the fee paid.

The NYITCOM Supplemental Application will only be available to applicants until March 9, 2025.

Fee Waivers

NYITCOM will only honor verified AACOMAS fee waivers. If you received an AACOMAS Fee Waiver, please forward that email to comadm@nyit.edu so that the Admissions Office may verify you are on the approved list of fee waivers. After verification, we will provide you with a one-time, unique supplemental fee waiver code via email that will expire within five days of receipt.

Note: Verification times will vary, so please be patient!

  • May 5, 2024: AACOMAS begins to process application materials.
  • March 2, 2025: Deadline for receipt of applications by AACOMAS.
  • March 9, 2025: Deadline for receipt of Supplemental Application.

To update your application information, please refer to AACOMAS Instructions for General & Academic Update (coursework).

NYITCOM does not accept updates or additional material(s) once you have submitted your Supplemental Application. We consider all the materials presented to us to be most relevant at the time of your application.

Sometimes life doesn’t proceed in a straight line. NYITCOM has developed transfer and waiver policies to help you continue your medical education. Transfer of credit for NYITCOM pre-clinical coursework will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

We begin interviewing in late summer and continue through early spring until the class is filled. Decisions regarding interviews are based upon careful evaluation of an applicant’s completed application and all supporting documentation. Interviews are required of applicants under serious consideration and are granted only by invitation of the Admissions Committee. Applicants should schedule their interviews as soon as possible upon receiving the invitation. We work on a rolling basis, so applicants are interviewed and accepted throughout this time.

All admissions decisions are sent via email, providing you ample time to make your enrollment decision (we do not offer extensions). Please check your email regularly throughout the cycle to receive important messages from the Admissions Office
